When somebody told me about cooking with essential oils I scoffed at them and thought it was a crazy idea!
I used essential oils for cleaning, in a diffuser and for everyday well being but never ever thought I would put them in food!
I use Doterra essential oils and products as a friend recommended them to me a few years ago when I had carpal tunnel syndrome. After two failed surgeries I was willing to try anything! I mainly used a muscle rub for my aches and pains called ice blue, which was similar to deep heat but completely natural.
I decided to try out this new crazy idea and the first edible oil I bought was Lemon oil.
Lemon is the best selling doTERRA essential oil and has Lemon multiple benefits and uses.
Lemon is a powerful cleansing agent that purifies the air and surfaces, and can be used as a non-toxic cleaner throughout the home. When added to water, Lemon provides a refreshing and healthy drink throughout the day. Lemon is added to food to enhance the flavour of desserts and main dishes. Taken internally, Lemon provides cleansing and digestive benefits and supports healthy respiratory function.* When diffused, Lemon is very uplifting and energising and has been shown to help improve mood.
One bottle of lemon oil is about $13 and contains around 50 lemons per bottle!!!
4 drops of lemon I find is equivalent to the juice of 1 lemon.
I made hummus and added a splash of oil and it was delicious!
Here is the recipe:
2 cups of chickpeas
1/2 cup olive oil
2 cloves roasted garlic
1 tbs tahini
8 drops of lemon oil
salt and pepper to paste
1 pinch of paprika
Blitz it all up in a blender and you have a lovely lemon fresh hummus! Serve with some sprinkled nuts, chilli flakes and seeds on top for a tasty, expensive looking hummus that you would pay around $6 for a 300gm tub in the supermarket!
